Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz. It is part of the hexagonal crystal system. It is a semi-precious stone with a vitreous or glassy luster. It often comes in shades of violet and purple. The meaning of this crystal is spiritual healing, calmness, and wisdom.
Amethyst means ‘not intoxicated’ and comes from the ancient Greek word – Amethystos.
The mineral quartz is rarely a constant, one stone can hold a whole host of varying shades and for this reason, it is considered to be one of the most beautiful crystal quartzes in the world.
